The Man
Idea [I] The Bible Is Like a Lamp
......."Your word is a lamp to my feet and light for my path" (Psalms 119:105).............Darkness and light is a frequent contrast used in Scipture to describe a person's spiritual condition and/or comprehension. At times were all "in the dark" as to why things happen as they do and what in the world God could have been thinking to allow such-and-such to happen. But the more we know about the Bible, the better our circumstances are "illuminatated."..................................We may never understand fully why some things occur as they do, but we can certainly learn to understand it better. (See I John 1:5-7). The words of Scripture continually turn our attention to crucial concepts such a s unconditioanl Love, Mercy, Forgiveness, Grace, Truth, Repentance, and much more. There are things we tend to overlook or forget without regular prompting. But opening the Bible is like opening your refrigerator; it's how you get the light to come on so that you can see a little better................................As we are regularly reminded of God's presence and help, our darker moments don't seem quite so bleak......................................................................Resource: The Bible, The Complete Idiot's Guide, Third Edition, The Bible is Like a Lamp by James Stuart and Stan Campbell, C 2005.
