Police Brutality

1. Does the Sean Bell case personify excessive police action?

2. Is police brutality mostly based on racist notions?

3. Do cops accused of police brutality typically get off without taking any responsibility for their actions?

4. Is there a wall of silence that keeps cops from having to face the consequences of their actions?

Unfortunately when battling a brutality case you're fighting against the whole force...hence the saying "The Great Blue wall is bigger than just one brick"
It is what it is...

I agreee with what you are saying, however i believe that change can be made if people want it to happen. this as everyone knows is not the first time something like this happened. unfortunatley we as a community are not doing enough to prevent this from happeneing. Change to me is the only thing that is constant in the world and if we want to make a difference we have to make the changes work for us. this is why i think that the youth should really try and make an effort to voice their oppionion about this problem. because as we all know this issue mainly faces the youth today. to me it takes more than one person to want something to happen. it takes us as a whole community to want change and to make it work. i also think that the youth is not aware of their rights so when things like this happen it might not affect them as much. this is very big issue and i think that itss time the hip hop community gets involved too and make bigger changes. stop making music that does not educate the youth. make music that will make a difference in ones life and let them know that they too are equal and are worth as much as anyone else in this society.

Re: Police Brutality
Look All Im saying is that from rodneyking, Amadu, adalawhema, timmothy, That little boy its just straight police brutality we as a colored people need to just stay on this because the next time it could be you. I seen how they started tasing people at the airport they killed two people and they where white so it my not be a race thing but as far as im concerned it mine as well be. shawn bell is not the first and wont be the last the goverment is in control and if they say their not guilty then their not guilty. Did they even mentioned that a stray bullit went through a near by bus station and allmost hit an on duty officer. know just that the officers where drunk and under cover they could have been shot them selfes if there were on duty officers near by. what they did was reackless and unnessery. Oh and lets not forget the insadent with the off duty officer they shot in the head when he was try to subdue a crimanal. do you know we as a black race are still concidered 1/5th of a human b-ing if we want to make a diffrence lets start there we are not even seen as humans and malcome x died trying to change that. Martin luthers dream has turned into a nightmare the lady justice tillts the scale not in our favor but against us as she peaks under her blind fold. The cops need to face true justice weather by the justice system or by the community.

Re:

Re: Police Brutality
how can a cop shoot 50 shots at someone when a person can die from only one shot the cops didn't have to kill him they could of shot him in the arm or anywhere else but they decided to kill him. they claim it was justice i'snt justice sending someone to jail instead of shooting or killing. i guess its kill first ask questions later remember never put your hand in your pocket by a cop and coroporate with them

Sad [:(] Re: Police Brutality
THIS REALLY JUST HURTS ME TO MY HEART AND SOUL. SEEING THIS KIND OF INHUMAN ACT BEING CONDONED MAKES ME SCARED FOR MY FATHER, BROTHER, COUSINS & FRIENDS, WHO I KNOW HAVE TO WALK THESE STREETS EVERYDAY. A PERSON SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT GETTIN' SHOT (especially by police)ON A NIGHT WHERE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE CELEBRATING AND HAVING A GOOD TIME. THIS KIND OF *73* SICKENS ME. AND EXCUSE ME FOR CUSSIN' BUT IT REALLY HITS HOME FOR ME, BECAUSE IT SEEMS THAT *73* LIKE THIS ONLY HAPPENS IN PLACES LIKE MY NEIGHBORHOODS AND FOR PEOPLE WHO LOOK AND LIVE LIKE ME. AND I'M NOT SAYING THAT IF THIS HAPPENED IN THE STICKS, I WOULD BE OKAY WITH IT. IT'S STILL BEYOND WRONG NO MATTER WHERE IT IS. BUT I CAN'T HELP BUT THINK ABOUT ALL THE SITUATIONS LIKE THIS THAT DIDN'T GET REPORTED. TODAY ON 106, JEFF JOHNSON REALLY MADE ME UNDERSTAND THAT IN ORDER TO STOP THIS *73* AND PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING IS TO LEARN THE LAW AND BECOME STUDENTS OF THE LAW. AND I ADVISE EVERYONE, INCLUDING MYSELF TO DO THE SAME.

Re: Police Brutality
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! POINT BLANK PERIOD! BUT ALSO WHAT IS AN OUTRAGE IS THE RESPONSE OF BLACK PEOPLE. I WATCH 106 & PARK TODAY AND I SEE AND FEEL THE EMOTION AS A BLACK MAN IN AMERICA, AND IT UPSET ME TO HEAR NAS (A RESPECTABLE ARTIST) TO SAY WE AT WAR. WE ARE ARE OWN WORST ENEMY NAS, COME ON MAN BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT YOU SAY ALOT OF PEOPLE RESPECT YOUR WORD. WE CANT HAVE SAFE COMMUNITIES SO HOW ARE WE GOING TO FORM AN ARMY? WE ARE DOING MORE DAMAGE TO US THAN ANYBODY. I HAVE LOST MORE PEOPLE TO HANDS OF BLACK PEOPLE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. THEIR WAS NO RALLY WHEN MY BROTHER WAS KILLED BY CRIPS! NOR FOR MY COUSIN KILLED BY BLOODS. NO OUTRAGE, JUST A HURT FAMILY. IT UP SETS ME TO SEE (US) REACT AS IF WE ARE GOING TO DO SOMETHING. NOT ONLY DOES POLICE BRUTALITY HAPPEN ALL TO OFTEN, BUT BLACKS KILL BLACKS EVERYDAY, IN EVERY STATE, IN EVERY HOOD. IF *6*Z KEEP IT GANGSTA AND STAY BUSTIN THEY GUN IN THE HOOD THEN WHATS THE DIFFRENCE. IF IT WAS SOME REGULAR *6*Z IN THE HOOD THAT SHOT 50 ROUNDS AT SEAN BELL WILL WE BE READY TO MARCH, PROTEST, BLOG, PRAY OR CRY INJUSTICE? IF SO WHERE IS EVERYONE AT *6*S ARE KILLING *6*S EVERYDAY HERE IN TULSA, OK. WE ACCEPT THE SAME THING FROM PEOPLE THAT LIVE IN OUR VERY OWN COMMUNITIES. WE SEE *6*S THAT WILL KILL YOU ON SIGHT AND WE SAY "HE GANGSTA", "HE GULLY" OR "HE KEEP IT REAL". IM SORRY FOR USING "*6*" BUT GO OUTSIDE IN YOUR HOOD AND LOOK AROUND AND GET UPSET ABOUT THAT! A CAR FULL OF *6*Z CAN RIDE DOWN MY BLOCK EMPTY OUT CLIPS, THEN *6*S FROM MY BLOCK WILL GO TO THEIR BLOCK AND RETURN FIRE. THEN SOMEONE WILL MAKE A RAP ABOUT HOW THEY BUST THEY GUNS UNLIKE FAKE *** *** *6*S WHO DON'T. HUH IM CONFUSSED. LOOK AT HOW MANY ARTIST ARE ON THIS SITE THAT CLAIM TO "KEEP IT REAL" THAT "MOVE WEIGHT" THAT " AIN'T AFRAID TO BUST ON A *17*A"! THEN MAKE A COMMITT ABOUT THIS SITUATION. IF A WHITE MAN OPENS FIRE ON THE PUBLIC THEN HIMSELF IS HE A GANGSTA? COPS THAT AINT AFRAID TO BUST ON A *6* IS NOT GANGSTA? OH BUT LET A *6* COME IN THE CLUB FROM A DIFFRENT HOOD THEN WE SHOOT EVERYTHING UP CAUSE THATS GANGSTA. WAKE UP MY PEOPLE. PLEASE I'M TRYING TO RAISE MY DAUGHTER. (SORRY FOR THE N WORD)

Re: Police Brutality
My heart goes out to the family of Sean Bell. I live in Queens now and it was so crazy. everyone was upset but we all kind of expected the verdict to be not guilty. Police brutality is mostly based on racist notions because I remember a few years back in new york city in the bronx an african immigrant was shot 41 times simply after the police told him to put his hands up. I can understand if they shoot 5 times but 41 times, 50 times. That is reckless. And then a few years before that incident I dont rememeber his name but the Haitian man who was beating and hurt badly in the bathroom by police officers with a plunger....everything is just not right. There will always be a silence that keeps cops from facing big consequences due to their actions. However I do notice something very interesting. When I am on the train, I notice the police who ride the train do not stare at the black students who go to catholic/private schools. They stare and target the students who wear regular clothes to school. Same for the older blacks. If they are dressed much more professionally, the police dont bother with them as much. But if your not dressed professionally, the police will look at you first. Yes I know being an officer is hard because they put their lives on the line and they are very very under paid but at the same time why must they only target on group of people. What kills me the most are the two black cops that were involved. I dont know how they are going to feel. Because one day the truth will come out. I am really nervous about whats going to happen now in New York. In new york, we have what you call and I hate to say this "proper racism". But now, I just pray that there will be peace. Because what I saw today, made me remember what happened in Crown Heights in the early 1990's. I dont want riots all over the place because these riots will turn into killings. I feel so hurt right now.
Keep your enemies close but your friends even closer.

Re: Police Brutality
I agree with what all of you are expressing about the latest situation. I was rather disturbed but not shocked as to how our "justice system" continues to fall through. So, to show love and support and try to make a connection with people all over the world who feel the same way, I've started a myspace page for Sean Bell and family just to show they are not alone. Join the page Justice For All...www.myspace.com/rememberseanbell It's not much but if we can spread the word, this is one way to signify united we stand, but divided we fall.

Re: Police Brutality
These people running the streets don't have no mercy for each other it’s kill or be killed. SO... DON'T YOU THINK, YOU AS A POLICE OFFICER WOULD BE SCARED FOR YOUR LIFE AND ADOTED THE SAME MENTALITY, SO YOU CAN MAKE IT HOME AT THE END OF YOUR WORK SHIFT IN THESE AREAS. IT WOULD BE A SOCIAL INJUSTICE TO CONVICT THAT BLACK AND HISPANIC POLICE OFFICERS,. THEY DIDN’T TAKE HIM TO A BACK ALLEYWAY AND PUMP 50 SHOTS IN HIM. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT. Message to AL Sharpton and his friends:
I believe the black community is tired of you and your network and you will never take the place or come close to what Dr. KING did for us. Dr. KING taught us how to uplift our mentality and our communities, to help our brothers and sisters, to be better human beings with morals and goals. To Interact with people as humans, not based on there skin color or race.
But it is YOU and people LIKE YOU that keeps us from progressing because all you do is talk about racism and battle law enforcement and do nothing about the real issues affecting our community because it does not give you the attention you crave and the millions of dollars you have in your pockets. Ask ourselves how many racist white people or police officers have killed our people this year. Compare that with how many people killed each other with black on black crimes, do to ignorance and gang violence, just over last weekend in all the black communities, CHICAGO, L.A, N.Y NJ. Ect… WHAT IS THE RATIO 1 TO 1000+. LETS JUST KEEP IT REAL TO OURSELVES, THEN MAYBE WE SHALL OUR COME. MY CONDOLENCES GO OUT TO HIM AND HIS FAMILY FOR BEING A VICTIM OF OUR MENTALITY AND SOCEITY THAT WE HAVE ACCEPTED TO LIVE IN.

Re: Police Brutality

Yes what happened was wrong, I agree.  As Black people we are always reacting to situations as opposed to be visionaries.  We will March, protest, and have angry faces the day after but that is reactionary.  We have become a reactionary people.

Unfortunately this will not be the last time things like this occure. In fact it will get worst...

Reactionary or Visionary?
