Speaking Up for the Black Community on Bob Johnson

The more the media replays the remarks made by Bob Johnson, former head of Black Entertainment Television the more I become completely unsettled and appalled as a Black Woman to hear the manner in which he elected to portray himself as a black man.

His sentiments are easy to connect with his lack of conviction having done no better than to pimp drugs on the street in his previous attempt to entertain the Black Community.  The manner in which he spoke, speaks to his ongoing ignorance, not only regarding his non-committal approach to the black community but by the way in which he chose to educate the black community with his booty-licious entertainment.  A man from the Civil Rights Era with no other contribution than that speaks to how effortlessly one can in fact stumble into money.

His candor and approach in his presentation lacked dignity, pride and only served to further isolate him into the throngs of ignorance he so happily served to the Black Community with the same step and fetch routine that allows him to stumble head first into an empire questioned by some and only stomached by others.

His vernacular introduces him before his presence ever could, and what does it introduce him as, you might ask; it introduces him first as a man whose only mainstream acceptance stops at the lining of his wallet, and continues in the shadows of who he believes he is, only to have his own shadow abandon him.

The apology Johnson handed down was not written by him and perhaps not read by him.  The verbal ignorance he assaulted on the American public can only be overshadowed by the geriatric back and fourth styling he portrayed as he swayed and dipped his head to the beat of a simple minded ignorance which has taken him years to master.  In his hip-hop-crisy he somehow forgot he was being presented in the homes of millions and because he forgot where he was he decided to act a complete ***.  Or perhaps that’s all he ever was.

Angry [:@] Re: Speaking Up for the Black Community on Bob Johnson
Letter to Bob Johnson/eurweb.com Dear Bob, The comments you in made in attacking Sen. Obama this past Sunday at a South Carolina church before your introduction of Sen. Hillary Clinton demonstrates that it doesn’t matter how much money you have it can’t buy class or, dignity. Bob, while you were shucking, grinning and jiving in front of the Clintons, are you that stupid that you didn’t care that you came across as a bootlicking Uncle Tom? Your attack on Sen. Obama continues to prove how ruthless you continue to be. In your own words which I will now quote you by, “As an African American, I am frankly insulted the Obama campaign would imply that we are so stupid that we would think Hillary and Bill Clinton, who have been deeply and emotionally involved in black issues — when Barack Obama was doing something in the neighborhood; I won't say what he was doing, but he said it in his book — when they have been involved," Johnson said. We all know that Sen. Obama wrote about his teenage drug use — marijuana, and alcohol in his memoir "Dreams from My Father." That’s old news. Bob, for you to attack Sen. Obama’s character shows what a coon you really are. Bob, you are the founder of BET which is the laughing stock of African Americans who care about positives images. Yes, you are successful as a capitalist but a failure in having any morals and helping to support your own race. The fact that Sen. Clinton or anyone would want or accept your endorsement is appalling and for me calls their basic character, let alone judgment, into question. Over the last 25 years you and BET have done more to propagate some of the most harmful, destructive, and degradation of African Americans in the history of popular culture. The booty shaking videos, misogony, gangsterism, violence, alcohol and drug use you allowed to air on BET on your way to becoming a billionaire was all done for the love of money. And now YOU want to take cheap shots at Sen.Obama?. I am constantly amazed at how you are allowed to speak and move in decent society. But, I guess in your case, money triumphs morals. After seeing you put on your best Stephen Fetchit routine this Sunday in front of Sen. Clinton as she sat back and enjoyed campaigning with you, I’m understanding a lot better why the country is calling for Sen. Obama and change! Signed, Najee Ali Founder / Executive Director Project Islamic HOPE

Re: Speaking Up for the Black Community on Bob Johnson
Bob Johnson has economic ties to the Clintons', which explains his comments in favor of Hillary.  Bob Johnson never exhibited meaningful, educated and insightful programming on BET.  He mainly showed buffoon type of programs and videos, nothing with much substance that would show the diversity and intelligence of black people.
