No [N] I have to jump on the bandwagon with David Banner on the IRON RING...
This show is NOT the business. It's not enough to say that I am repulsed by BET's latest installment, IRON RING. Enough is enough! My position is I will NOT watch the show. Watching one black man barbarically slam another black man on his back(and this I previewed on a BET commercial) in some type of wrestling restraint, made my heart hurt. Lord knows if the man recovered from this or not but the crowds reaction seemed less than compassionate. Realistically, black men are beat DOWN daily by so many other societal pressures that range from being role models to just trying to compete with their Caucasian, Asian, Filipino and Latin counterparts in regular 9-to-5 jobs. Then you see Nelly, Luda, Jewels Santana and Lil' John as promoters of this madness. They're already blingin, shinin. Life is good! Yet, they're all "promoters" of this brutal sport. A fight you know they'd never fight themselves even on a good day...LOL. I love, love, love Luda but knowing that he has a successful rap career, as well as the community based foundations that bear his name's sake---I just don't understand the contrast with his involvement in Iron Ring. That goes for Nelly, too. Personally, all the rappers I mentioned need to be catalysts for change. There are so many sports networks that polarize this type of fighting. BET should not put itself in the limelight for being one MORE of them. We boycotted "HOT GHETTO MESS" aka "We Got To Do Better". This show is now defunct. Iron Ring deserves the same shut down. As a network, BET needs to provide us with more responsible programming. I am not so naive that I don't know that muay thai combined with boxing has been around long before now. I'm just saying, "Why us?"
