My friend's husband's family doesnt like her because she is dark skinned. When she met his grandmother she told him that at least she is a "pretty *250*." His mother went as far to say that if their children turned out to be dark skinned then she would not allow her own grandchildren into her home. Why do we still have this phobia of "light skinned means that you are better?"

its a residue of the old slave practices in america and the carribean. that mentality is still prevalent amongst blacks who , not having cultural and language differences to divide them, use skin tone to divide themselves.. i understand that in the carribean this practice is so bad within the islands that dark skin tonned people were not pushed forward to take govt jobs and to wrk in banks.. however this culture is changing slowly. why is there such a demand for bleaching creams and skin lighting creams amongst certain africans.? the desire to look lighter, which harks back to colonial days. we didnt have slaves but we had colonial rule.which meant those who wanted to look like the colonial masters went for the bleaching creams.. gross.

however, i have never heard of this type of discrimination, but its not surprising as light skinned women are highly prized by black men against their much darker sisters. thats why all these successful blacks marry hispanic women... you dont see them doing the baby daddy with them the way they do with their own women, who just arent trophy material.

That is what's so sad....we have been quote, unquote free for years but our mentallity and our thinking has kept us in slavery
