Re: Are church people over-weight?
I have to say I started noticing that some church people are overweight, just like the rest of society. I can look at gospel artist Fred Hammond and how much weight he has put on since he started singing and how dangerously overweight he is and some choir members in my own church. I think the church & chrisitans do have a responsabilty to promote physical health and taking care of ouselves from ALL THINGS!! Our bodies are temples and when Gods said that he meant putting we shouldn't put anything in it or on it that will hurt or destroy it, Gods feels like why mess with perfection!! Sometimes the wrong foods are just as harmful as drugs and alchol that over time can do serious and even fatal harm! My family's church does gospel areobics classes and has health fairs to education the community and the church on a healthy lifestyle. I don't think it is in the forefront the way if should be because going to church and having a relationship with God is suppose to heal and educate your mind body and soul. God gave us this one body and he wants us to treat it well, it's common sense and I'm sure it's a struggle for overweight and obease people because it's a struggle for me to just stay a size 6, but we have to love ourselves enough to take care of ourselves all the way around. Churches should not sweep it under the rug as if it's not big deal, they should do things to help a person that wants to be helped. God loves us and does not want to see us hurting ourselves in any way!!!
It's Mrs M to you! 5/5/07!!!!

Re: Are church people over-weight?
Fam,
The approach currently to religion is a non-holistic(fail to address all aspects of Man's being) approach. A well known example of the non-holistic approach to behavioral modifacation is seen in the prayer method relied upon by most religions. A devout follower will pray to God for assistance with a health problem-a great plus, as it acknowledges the existence of God, and Its role in Man's life-but this devotee will often be seen destroying her/his health through erroneous diet, smoking, improper sleep, lack of excersise etc. We need not wonder why the majority of peoples' prayers for healing are never answered. The approach fails because it simply ignores other shaping forces of health acting in Man's being. The prayer method taught by most religions is in itself flawed, as devotee are not really taught all the things needed to qualify for God's help.
The point here is not to critisize anyone, but to understand that the way we have been trained is not conducive to our spiritual success.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
I think that people in general are overweight. I think that America really needs to wake up as far as that's concerned. But I do believe that Christians have a responsibility to take care of the bodies that we are housed in. Though the Bible says that excersising towards godliness is most important, it also recognizes the importants for physical excercise and fitness.
To touch on what Conscious Brotha said I think that it is important that we not be hypocritical by polluting our bodies and/or not taking proper care of it. The only thing i disagree on is your labeling the follower "devout". Because I believe that one who is devout would also be one who is attentive in all of these areas.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
Are Church People Overwieght: Yes! You are a bunch of gluttons and drunkards who devour the flesh of swine and commit fornication and adultry every chance you get. You are the Anti-Christ people who sin in the name of Christ. your children are a bunch of homosexuals and Godless freaks. You wave the flag of oppression and genocide. God is showing the world who you really are! Nothing but a bunch of sick hypocrites who preach against God's law, occupy peoples lands and slaughter their children. You bastards even attempted to introduce pornography in Iraq. You have a bible in one hand and a pornographic magazine in the other. You reject your own book! Who can take you serious? I pray that Allah guide the sincere among you to Islam. I feel so sorry for those real Christians who are trapped in your institutions of ignorance and spritual death. All praise is due to Allah who guides the sincere.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
Asad,
I must say, you really seem like a sharp brother, and I respect that. But how far can sharp take you? Certainly everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs. Certainly I understand passion, but you always seem to come across so rough. To be honest most of the time I never respond to your posts. And its not because I'm not intersted in the subject, have no input, or cannot adress your points. But most of the time the tone of your posts (at least to me) tends to shift a thread from a conversation to a debate or "heated discussion" (which is something I'm not particularly interested in). You just always seem to take it to a level that I just don't think is necesarry.
I am a Christian and I don't think the description you gave above can get too much further from an accurate description of me. I am firm in my faith. But I have to tell you if I were one to ever think about Islam I would seriously reconsider after reading one of your posts. I can't speak for anyone else but I can't follow a brother slaps me upside the head with his beliefs while insulting mine. Now I don't mean this sacrcastically at all, but if you are my example of what Allah can do in a mans life it really makes me wonder........does Allah teach people how to be polite, or humble, or meek, or kind, etc? Where are the virtues?
I'm not even going to adress what you said here or some of the other posts that I've read because I don't think its really even worth it. But I thought I'd just voice my opinion. Take it how you will, but I think that a wise man would take it as food for thought at the least.
Peace

Eating organic foods and exercising will keep one fit. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Being wise in all aspects of the christian life is important.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
Woo! Hoo!!FOTFL!!!
ROTFL!!!
Ooohh man, I had tear in my eyes I was laughing so hard. This is not a laughing matter, but reading the responses made me crack up.
@ Asad,
Bro you know we are taught to debate in the best of fashions. I get emotionally and frustrated at the ignorance too, but we have to remember that there are some sincere Christians out there who aren't trying to provoke fights and start arguments with any Muslim they see or hear.
@ Unorthodox,
It has been quite a few regulars & trolls on BET harassing and purposely irritating the Muslims on the boards so many times we have lost our cool because they are no moderators any more to keep the peace around here. What you read was months of frustration with these ignorant folks on BET.
@ Organicone,
Sometimes I wonder if your really that naive or do you say things to be sarcastic and get a laugh in. You couldnt be this "sweet Jesus" person 24/7 in real life. lol. You are hilarious....
Some people say I start drama, I say I finish it.

When one is over weight, it is hard to testify of the greatest, and goodness of God. I know the world is obeased. But those in the church should have the power to resist the fatback and grease. There is power in God.
