I think that for so long, the whole world has been taught that everything that is BLACK is bad, so in turn AMERICA expects every thing blacks do, to be bad.It takes a whole village to raise one child....

I am a female and I respect myself and other females to the fullest, I
found nothing offensive about the Tip Drill video. I agree with Nelly
if you didn't like the video then you shouldn't have watched the video,
why would you sit through the entire 4 minute video, get to the end and
then complain about the credit card part of the video. And I feel like
the females at Spellman College were very dumb in declining to allow
him to have that event. I live in Atlanta, and guess what it only hurt
those who can't afford the proper medication to get treated for the
cause that he was doing the event for. He has money and was able to
help his siter to the very end, but how many people lost out because
the "Females Of Spellman" were offended. We all need to grow up and
smell the roses, and rezlize that we can't make anyone do anything, we
all determine our own destiny.

first off im very glad we having a true conversation about this issue and what hip hop means. we all grew up listening to the music and we relate to it in many ways. but what has bothered me is that even though hip hop is to blame for some things and we are getting a spotlght put on that, what will happen after part one is over and then after part two?? i mean we can talk a good game but what will happen after that? who will step up and make a change our community needs so much more than just words spoken. we need good schools, better parenting, good role models out there for those who are lacking parental guidence, when can we have a forum on that? cuz right now is just a bunch of young people defending their profession and a bunch of older people who are trying to understand our point but at the same time criticizing with no solution. so what will be done about about all this?? and honestly having karrine steffins on here is a little controversal because she has a book out but still doing the same *73* she writing about so what could she say that would make sense on hip hop. she makin black women look bad with the superhead nickname an all her actions and how brothas look at women now.

I think what was done tonight was just the tip of the iceberg. I agree a little with everyone on the stage tonight but i'm reminded of when i was growing up that we are our brothers' keeper. We have to look out for each other but while looking out for each other and supporting each other, we have to also school and push our brother and sistas' that they have a awesome responsibility along with us raising OUR villages'. Our hip-hop brothers' and sisters' have a story to tell but they also have a reposibility to small kids that love their music to educate them that that's not all i'm about but i do have another side to me. The editor from Essence magazine saw another side to Nelly tonight that she didn't imagine that it existed. We need to talk more. Before passing judgement, "GET TO KNOW ME BEFORE YOU JUDGE ME" but we all need to look in the mirror and check ourself.
Thank U
God Bless

Re: Hip Hop vs. America - Tune In & Discuss The Series - September 25 and 26 at 8 p.m. (ET/PT)
To me hip hop is being blamed for most of americas problems and its not fair that people make music about their lives and how they grew up. It is ashamed that poeople who came from similar backgrounds such as (Oprah Winfrey) and many others to critisize this type of music for whats going on today. If thats the case then why isnt Rock or Heavy Metal music being blamed for things people of the opposite race such as what happened in Littleton Co almost 10 years ago or when some kids go out and party where some kids go and do what they see off of a rock video and jump off a building. Another thing is that songs like Changes and Smile by 2pac, and Still aint forgave myself , Be better than me by T.I, inspired me to keep on going and graduate high school and go to college just when i was about to give up and say forget it. These people came from nothing and became something and those people are the kind that people like me who live in poverty look up to and for people to blaim rappers for problems in todays society isnt right. Those people are making a statement saying that black people can be something in this world after many years of people saying that we couldnt, and many people still think that today. I am a person who wasnt suppose to live and see past the first three days of my life because of premature birth, even though i lived in the hospital for the first five years of my life and i go back and fourth to the hospital every other month, god put me here for a reason and he put them here for a reason, and its good reason, O yeah and America dont forget that it was Rappers who extended their hands out two years ago when Katrina tore up the gulf coast when George W. Bush and friends didnt come ehen they were suppose to!

I just watched part 1 and found it very interesting. I do think some valid points were made mainly the money portions and how the industry will do whatever will gernerate more money. I believe the key with that is once the artist learns the ins and outs they have a responsiblity to teach the new comers the ropes instead of behaving like crabs in a a basket. Also the treatment of women really needs to be addressed. The fact still remains that we are on the same side fighting the same struggles so why should the young men degrade their mammas and sisters. I do believe that no matter how much money is offered they should not sell their sisters out, and if a young lady suggests particular acts then it is up to the brothers to say NO that is not the way to go and school her. This discussion can go so many ways I wish the commentators luck.

Re: Hip Hop vs. America - Tune In & Discuss The Series - September 25 and 26 at 8 p.m. (ET/PT)
i found this whole show very interesting, but the most interesting part of this show i found was the part about how black people tend to think about carrying themselves in a specific way in front of white people. i find the idea itself to be very comedic that black people in america have always made a big deal of this, and i appreciate that the reverend al sharpton was smart enough to come out and finally say: who cares?! i come from a place where we have blacks, whites, arabs, and asains, we have suburbs right next to government housings, we go to the same schools, play ball on the same courts, and we all hang out together. someone please explain to me why ONE SPECIFIC RACE has had to carry themselves in a certain way in america, the so called "melting pot" of the world?
and one more thing: hip hop has become a universal culture with more than just one race, the fact that black america is getting heat for something we all have to bare worldwide is unjust of the media, because once again, where im from, its not just black on black violence, its youth on youth violence.
