Im in my early 20’s, still in college and it seems like all my peers are getting pregnant….Pregnancy seem to equate to wifey status to many females. Especially when I go back home in the hood and 17, 18 and 19 year old couples are planning pregnancies and sporting their new babies like a wedding ring.

 

Even worse a close friend of mine got pregnant for her current boyfriend because she was so jealous of his baby momma and their child. WTF?

It does seem that way. I'm 20 and I'm a baby mama I've never wanted to get married until now. But I have always been the long term type. My relationships lasts for 2, 3, 4 years, but as I said I never wanted to get married. A child changes everything. But for those who wanna get married to keep a man or for the sake of a child.... ARE REALLY THINKING STUPID! You would make the child's life a loving hell because you would be stuck in a situation that u never wanted to be in anyway. And to keep a man by marriage is even more stupid! If  a man isn't happy he's not going to stick around. If he does he's going to make your life a living hell by cheating, lieing, or just treating u like s***. My advice...Don't get married or have a baby until you and the dude are truely ready.

Being a single parent is NOT easy. I'm glad you are in college and focusing on your career. Honey, the men aren't going anywhere. Furthermore, I don't want a man who is ALWAYS around the way. Do you have a job??? Morning, noon, and night you are hanging around the way. ___________________________________ Wifey Status in my opinion DOES NOT include being someone's baby mama or the piece on the side.

Vanity you are str8, you're in school, you got out the hood (at least for a minute) and you got a good head on your shoulders.  Don't worry about no kids, or these one track ni66as out here.  I remember when I was in school, and when I came back home everybody had a youngin.  Like it was a fad or something.  Just think about 5 years in the future, where you could be if you stay on track, or where you could be if you follow the crowd.  It takes a special person to sway away from the status quo

Having a baby doesn't lower a person's status- everyone's situation is different...what is wrong with some folks...some people do have kids for the wrong reasons- but not all "baby mama's" are like that....whoever thinks like that needs to grow up- ANYONE that has had sex ever can get pregnant- nothing is full proof!

I'll take a ring over a baby any day. just cause u have a bay with a dude dont mean he gone be there half the time any way. they still do wtf they want 2 do regardless. thats a hood fantsay. when u have baby with a dude all he sees id that he can come over & hit it wenever he want 2.

Tsk tsk tsk...its not good to generalize & assume that EVERYONE is like that! Babies are not the plague! If you don't have your sh*t together & you are not mature...probably so!

Husbands can do that SAME THING! Ignore your a** and move on...You would like to think that when you get married that it will last, but if it doesn't...then what...you are in that boat.

There is absolutely no excuse for unwanted or unplanned pregnancies in 2007!!!! There is too much birth control out here. And ladies you know we always need to double up on protection if you're out there having raw sex................I agree, I would rather have the double bands on my left ring finger than being a single parent. And yes husbands leave their wives, but that fool is in same house with me and that screaming kid!!! All babies aren't blessings. And if my husband leaves me at least I get the house!!!!! Alimony........and child support.... So yes I'll take being a wife than lowering my standards of becoming a baby's momma all day every day!!!...........................Be smart ladies.

I see what you mean- but I know some folks and their husband divorced them b/c they were pregnant...b/c they wouldn't get their tubes tied...and they MOVED OUT & living with another woman....women that are single mothers are NOT AT ALL inferior to a woman that is married...some folks are in a fcuked up marriage with money problems & an abusive situation, when the single mother is taking care of herself with a big time job- paying her own way and going on vacations....there are some nasty single mothers that rely on the state to support them & have babies just to be having them....but their are also some messed up wives that don't no anything for their kids- don't want to clean...cheat...and they act like their kids are a burden-

I never understood the term "Wifey"!! I mean if he didn't make you his legal "Wife" then all  that "Wifey" mess is just a joke and just another word to pacify the women and to make he feel a bit more important. You are still his girlfriend until you sign a legal document and share his last name nothing more and nothing less. Thats that silly hood mess, but thats just my opinion because being a "Wifey" and a "Wife" are not to be compared.

Let them know that you are not just a baby machine, but you are worth marrying first, you are worth it ladies and I mean that!!!!!! And if that man won't their are men that will!!!My now husband knew I didn't play that family first stuff, so we made sure that it didn't happen until after we wed  and even now we are still not ready for children.

Thank goodness you have a good head on your shoulders and want to better your life, unlike those underachievers that live near you. They don’t realize how they are ruining their lives and their children, who most likely will be underachievers like their parents. They can’t get it through their heads that a good education is extremely important, not having babies by these young boys that don’t care about them. Those girls have a ghetto mentality and no hope for the future.
