Re: How important is buying a home to you???
NoStereotyping, I guess I had a unique experience then, because my apartment was incredible. maintenance was quick to respond to my needs and my neighbors were no trouble. I suppose it depends on the building and establishment. I will be moving to a bigger, two-bedroom apartment because I want a 2nd room for all of my entertainment usage (Tv, music, etc), but I've had no problem with my current one. All of the utilities were also included and the building was always clean. To each his own I suppose.

@ Nostereotyping...I didnt have any problems with my apartment either. It was nice, no insect problems, great landscaping. I guess it just depends on the rental property.....@ Solitude--- what makes you so sure you will never get married? Have you been married before? What if you have kids and just want to buy a home for them, so they will have a yard to run and play in? Having kids makes a world of difference on oyur whole lifestyle. Its jsut somthing to think about...feel me?

I agree with you, Babycakes.....I'm working on it as I write this. I'm a little bit older than you and everyday I'm educating myself on the do's and don'ts in becoming a first time home buyer. By the time I retire my house will be paid for. It'll be a place where I can make all the noise I want and big enough to raise a family in someday. Its a great investment!!! As long as you keep up with the maintenance and upgrades it'll be in my best interest if I decide to sell it. The equity will increase as well as the property value and I'll gain financially. Most of all I can say that its mine; all mine. It'll give me a chance to tell people I don't like to get the hell off my property!!!

Re: How important is buying a home to you???
I saw a play titled "Going West". The plot dealt with black folks "homesteading" land in Oklahoma during Reconstruction in the late 1800's. There was a woman who took it upon herself without a husband to work the land until it was deeded in her own name. I will never forget what she said "Every colored woman has got to have her own piece of land".!!!!.........I have been blessed with my own home for a number of years and this " colored woman " is truly grateful, indeed!!!
