Re: Are church people over-weight?
Bratha. The only real connection to God that I know is by faith in God through Christ, and the indwelling Holy Spirit. As far as food is concern,God has given man wisdom to produce food scientifically, but how it relates to God I do not know. Why don't you share with me and the board how this is done. This post is a bout solutions to the obese problem. I would like to hear what you have to say. Also God has given man kind ,the wisdom to eat properly and the importantance of taking care of their bodies. Every good gift comes from God,even dieticians. Share with us.

Re: Are church people over-weight?

According to a 1998 Purdue University study, obesity is associated with higher levels of religious participation. (Broken down by creed, Southern Baptists have the highest body-mass index on average, Catholics are in the middle, and Jews and other non-Christians are the lowest.) When this finding was brought to the attention of the Reverend Jerry Falwell, he was unperturbed. "I know gluttony is a bad thing," Falwell said. "But I don't know many gluttons." That is one way out of the dilemma -- to deny that overweight people are necessarily sinful gluttons. But it could also be that gluttony is not really a sin.

So basically, religious people can't help being fat. They should spend less time praying and more time exercising.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
^^^I think they should pray about their weight problems just as other things. Isiah 53:5 says, And by his stripes we are healed. God wants us to be healthy, but faith without work is dead. So we have to do our part (exercies/eat right) to help God out. I also read on Yahoo! recently that they believe obesity is linked with social setting. That is, if you hang around heavier people you begin to accept that lifestyle and you will soon start to put on pounds yourself<<<makes a lot of sense.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
Mzknow,I agree that socializing is a key to being over-weight. The world at large spend a greater part of their day, doing business in food establishments. It has become the latest thing,to do busness, make deals, etc. Church people socialize at restarants after church services. But America is obese. Our foods coming from abroad, with chemicals, and different additives, and perservitives. Trans fats in fries and bake goods. Education in diets ,exercising, and moderation in eating, is a good start. We can either go to Heaven,or hell earlier than we planned.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
^^Organicone, This is what people must realize. Today's food is filled with harmful chemicals and a lot of the food that is being injected with these chemicals is Soul Food. We have to start monitoring our intake of cholesterol, sodium, etc. and start getting active, eating green veggies, fruits, and drinking lots of water. I may sound like a diet guru, but I'm really just starting to implement these changes myself...it's not about dieting, it's about a healthy lifestyle.

Wouldn't a christian know about temprence??

Wouldn't they know how to take care of their temples???

Isn't that part of being a christian...it starts with SELF....

Self control over the food

Self control over laying around...

Re: Are church people over-weight?
^^^You would think so..but the "temple" to some people may not necessarily be the physical body, but the spirtual attribute.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
Yes, church folk are overweight. I had aunts and uncles who ate like pigs. Sadly, it caught up with many of them when they got old. Additionally, it seems that within the church and black gospel arena being overweight is alright. Look at the majority of your female black singers they are fat, huge and overweight....Another comment, Hollywood oftens portrays our women as loud, overweight and having an attitude.

The Man
Re: Are church people over-weight?

Tak care of the Soul that is connected directly to the Creator. For if you don't you are causing the organs that connect directly to the creator to become calcified (hardened and un responsive). (This is the science behind what is meant by take care of your temple on a very elementary level).

Re: Are church people over-weight?
I was always under the impression that GOD would only help those who wanted to help themselves. Now faith is a great thing and all but, at some point in time it's all about action.Going to church is fine but leaving service and going to your aunt's house to sit around and eat chitlins and candied yams kind of defeats the purpose.
It is what it is...
