Are church people over-weight?
As the world's people seems to take care of their bodies, what can the church do to encourage church members to take care of their bodies? The body of christ(christians),and church people should be concern about their bodies and their health. Our nation as a whole is obesed. Why are so many people eating themselves to death? Can food be as addictive as drugs and other things? Can over-eating help people to over-come their problems? or were they born addictived to food. We should take care of our spirit, soul, and body.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
I think more churches need to jump-start the solutions to many of our health problems. We have so many mega churches now and it would be nice to see maybe a small gym put in. If this is too costly for small churches, getting together and walking or jogging would be great. Or perhaps having a "Biggest Loser" competition and sending the winner and a guest on vacation. We have to make weight loss fun esp. for the kids.

^^^This is why we need seminars with nutritionist trainers. The point the orginial poster was making, I believe, was about how strong of a religion background we have and if we could utilize this for our health benefit. I believe we can. If this is something you want to see happen, talk with your church programmers or become a programmer to implement the types of activities that promote smart eating habbits, regular exercising and spirital growth.

Yes, food and anything else can become addictive and when you add sitting around "gossiping and running people down", it's deadly! Just digging their graves with their forks. Gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins!

I agree that all churches should hold classes in nutrition . Seminars and ongoing classes will be great. Strong spirits, and sick and obesed bodies makes for a shaky testamony . Yes we should contact the pastor about implementing these classes.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
Wow, organicone, you raise a good point. I personally notice quite a few HEAVVVVY individuals who are regular church goers. I work with one in particular who is younger than 30, looks @ 40, vehemently professes to be a virgin, but just sits around judging others and staring wontingly at the majority of her male coworkers.
Although, I try hard not to judge others... I see this individual as a total hypocrite. I feel that she needs to stop playing and focus more on losing weight.
Lastly, I for one feel that people usually make positive change when they themselves take charge and make a personal decision/committment to take the necessary steps toward their goal(s).
I don't feel that a class on nutrition given by a church is going to make that much of a difference, especially for those members who are already accustomed to over-eating. I mean so many members (not all) show up to listen to the word, but it goes in one ear and out the other. They usually leave church and gossip, hate, steal, hurt etc... even more than they did before they joined the church.
So basically what I'm getting at is that you could lead a horse to water, but you can not make him/them drink.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
Etyal . But can't we try to motivate those who are over weight. Even those who hear the word in church, some of they are being touch. God said "His word will not return to Him void, but will do what it was sent to do". I think motivating classes will help maybe four out of of ten. I notice out side of the church, motivating classes are very effective. Classes on getting rich,weight-loss,self-esteem,etc,are very successful classes. Go to your coworker in love and talk with her,get to know her,and share with her the important of having good health. We are not to take on the character that they might display, but let us make a different in some one's life.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
consciousbraththa. That is a good idea. Some churches are already doing that. But all churches must teach the important of having a healthy body. It is hard for an ill person,or an over-weight person to talk about the goodness of God through Christ. Most of the food we eat is addictive, and harmful. Health education is a must for the church and our world. Spirituality, exercise, good diets are all good elements.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
Organic One,
I feel you. My thing is and why I post all over the place is that we are attacked in every area of people activity. Ok we are talking about health now. In churches not only do they NEED to talk about Nutrition but also about the science of how the Food relates to spirituality. In our Afrikan traditions (Khemit) we talked about this and understood it. Why is it not in the bible. My thing is the bible isn't the only source that we should embrace, it is a Carbon Copy of the original. I am very spriitual adn understand the deeper meaning behind Relgions. But its just not being taught in Churches today. We can talk Like King to king or Queen to Queen but i am not here for debate, you feel me. people as you see love to debate and nobody gets heard you can see that from my post and the responses I get back.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
I also understand that everyone will not be receptive to nutritionist classes or even work out groups, but some are. Just as Organicone said, if ony 40% or even 20% learns from it that's success. When a few people implement these changes in their lifestyle, then their kids will be taught a healthier way of eating, and grandkids..it's not always about the present, but the future; and someone needs to stand up and help change a future generation. America is the fattest nation, and our kids are growing up obese. Until we step in and make some changes, it will only snowball.

Re: Are church people over-weight?
Bratha, in the old testament, God has laid out a great diatary plan for His people. Study the whole bible,it will bless you. We have the Spirit of God to give us wisdom in all aspect of our lives. Eating wisely ,and in moderation has alway been. I agree that debating everthing is not the solution.Iam sure that our posters would welcome your dietary plan for good health. We may not always agree on our doctrine of God,but we can agree that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. So share some of you information for good health.

Organic One,
Ok I hear what you are saying. Im not talking about what the bible laid out. I am talking about the science to what the bible may have laid out. How does it scientifically relate to your body and spirit??How does it enhace your connection with the creator??? Please if I have missed that information in the bible show me and I will learn... The Science...
