Marlon Wayans Reveals Why He Never Got Married

The 51-year-old bachelor said, “I never got married, because I never wanted my mother to be jealous of a woman.”

Comedian and actor Marlon Wayans opened up in his latest comedy special, “Good Grief,” about why he never married. The 51-year-old bachelor said he never wanted his late mother to be jealous of his potential future wife.

"My mother’s death broke me. It shattered me into a million pieces, because that was my girl," Wayans told The New York Times. "I never got married, because I never wanted my mother to be jealous of a woman. I never wanted my mother to feel second to any woman."

As a comedian, Wayans has always been able to find humor in everything, even in death. Having lost both his parents, Wayans said grief broke him, but comedy helped put him back together again.

Wayans understood his mother’s jealousy. He said, "Mom was very needy. I told my mother on her deathbed, 'I never got married because I always wanted you to be my No. 1 girl.' Those were my last words [to her]. I said, 'Take that to heaven with you.'"

Wayans was very candid in his Times interview, even speaking about his daughter’s transition. “I’m working on a beautiful hour about that — about the transition. I went through it, and the transition wasn’t about their transition. It was my transition — going from opposing what they wanted to complete acceptance.”
